MSA - Systematics/Evolution Porter, T.M. [1], Vilgalys, Rytas [1]. 454 sequencing of chytrid cDNA libraries. The goal of the Assembling the Fungal Tree of Life 2 (AFTOL2) project is to improve the fungal phylogeny produced during AFTOL1 by sampling a reduced number of taxa for a greater number of loci to obtain good statistical support at the deepest nodes. This was particularly problematic among the earliest diverging fungal lineages due to the use of markers that were not necessarily the most phylogenetically informative at deep divergence times. Additionally, it has proven challenging to obtain sequence data for the basal fungi due to the poor representation of chytrid genomes for comparison. To address these issues, we have created several chytrid cDNA libraries and sequenced these using 454 (Roche) technology. Here we present our preliminary results and discuss how to leverage these data to produce a robust phylogeny. Log in to add this item to your schedule
