Studies an effect of different parameters of sowing on growth of selected Ornamentals.

In the present study, the growth, flowering, post harvest physiology and preservation of two ornamental plants viz. Candytuft and Phlox drummondii were studied. The seeds of those two plants were germinated in distilled water at room temperature and under cold temperature. The germination data like root length, shoot length, fresh weight, dry weight of seedlings were taken at regular intervals. In the field experiments, the seeds were sown in the garden at different sowing dates. The plants were sprayed with distilled water, 10-3 M GA3, 10-3 M Kinetin while some were untreated as control. Readings were taken for root length, stem length, leaf number, fresh weight of root, fresh weight of stem, fresh weight of leaves, dry weight of root, dry weight of stem and dry weight of leaves. The RGR, LWR, and NAR were also calculated for each of the spray treatments with distilled water, 10-3 M GA3, 10-3 M Kinetin. The concentration of sucrose in preservative solution was standardized. The mineral salts like Aluminum Sulphate, Citric Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Maleic Hydrazide were used as part of the preservative Solution. Different parameters like fresh weight, transpiration water loss, water uptake, and ratio for every value were calculated and post harvest shelf life assessed. It was found that the shoot length in seedlings of Candytuft increased in distilled water cold temperature treated set than that of seedlings treated with distilled water room temperature. While in Phlox drummondii distilled water treated in room temperature seedlings had more shoot length than seedlings subjected to other treatments. The fresh weight of seedling of Candytuft increased in distilled water cold temperature than the room temperature.
