Seed Banks in Meadows, Young Forests, and Unlogged Forests.

We compared the seedbanks in meadows, young forests, and unlogged forests. Each seedbank was subjected to three treatments: a heat treatment to simulate a fire, a fertilizer treatment to simulate fertilization that may accompany post-disturbance seeding, a shade treatment to simulate the effects of a conifer tree overstory, and a control with no treatment applied. Results showed that there were very few germinable seeds in the seedbank on these sites. The most abundant germinant was foxglove.
